AKRON, Ohio – The John Carroll women’s swimming & diving team captured the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship for the seventh straight year and 23^rd of all-time.

The Blue Streaks totaled 1,038 points over the four-day event, the most points recorded in OAC history. Mount Union placed second with 761 points, Ohio Northern finished third with 552 points, Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 444 points and Wilmington was fifth with 246 points.

Olivia Goodman of John Carroll won three individual events and was named the 2023 OAC Swimmer of the Year. John Carroll’s Catherine Steinwachs earned Diver of the Year honors, and Mount Union and John Carroll’s staff both earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

The evening started with the 1650 freestyle, where Mount Union’s Emma Kreber finished first with a time of 18:15.25. Bella Ratino (Baldwin Wallace) finished second (18:37.24) and Katie Bend (Ohio Northern) finished third (18:41.98).

In the 200 backstroke, John Carroll’s Lauren Koppelman finished in first place with a time of 2:07.89. Shelby Starkey from Ohio Northern finished second (2:10.59) and Baldwin Wallace’s Mallory Dondorfer third (2:11.35).
 
John Carroll’s Mairin Dalziel took first in the 100 freestyle, finishing with a time of 52.26. Gwyneth Hamilton (John Carroll) was second in 52.58 and Mount Union’s Abby Calaway third (52.73).
 
Tia Reed from Baldwin Wallace won the 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:27.89. John Carroll’s Regan Gunzy finished right behind Reed with a time of 2:27.99. Makenna Garn from Wilmington College finished third with a mark of 2:30.63.
 
Goodman’s third win of the weekend came in the 200 butterfly, posting a time of 2:09.58. Ohio Northern’s Mara Brown was second (2:13.82) and Mount Union’s Nina Veldt third (2:17.60).

The John Carroll divers took the top three places in the three meter event, with Catherine Steinwachs (396.15), Anne Meunier (355.70), and Kathryn Visco (353.70).
 
John Carroll closed the championship with a win in the 400 freestyle relay as the team of Mary Hoffman, Gwyneth Hamilton, Ashley Lynch and Mairin Dalziel stopped the clock in 3:30.57, setting a new OAC record. Mount Union’s Maddie Horrigan, Lexi Schuller, Isabelle Parr and Abby Calaway finished second with their time of 3:34.00.

This week, OAC swimmers will find out who qualifies for the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on March 15-18.
