Petrella repeats as National Champion, Four earn All-American Honors at NCAA Wrestling Championships

 

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Four Ohio Athletic Conference wrestlers finished in the top four and earned All-American honors at the 2024 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, hosted by the by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the La Crosse Center.

Baldwin Wallace senior All-American and No. 1 seed 149-pounder Michael Petrella led the team to a sixth place finish (61.5 points), making this the third straight year the Yellow Jackets have finished in the top 10. Petrella, having won 76-straight matches, finished yet another perfect season and won his second straight NCAA Division III National Championship. Petrella won the championship match by pinfall in 4:19 over No. 2 seed Tyler Goebel of Wisconsin-La Crosse, earning All-American honors for third straight year (2022 National Runner-Up, 2023 National Champion and 2024 National Champion).

Baldwin Wallace senior All-American and No. 3 seed Jaden Hinton finished as national runner-up in the 133-pound weight class, losing by pinfall in the championship match to No. 5 seed Chase Randall of U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Conn.). Hinton earned All-American honors for the second straight year, after finishing in fourth place at last year's championship.

Baldwin Wallace senior All-American and No. 4 seed 125-pounder Jacob Decatur made his third-straight trip to nationals and finished in fourth place, earning All-American honors for third straight year (2022 National Champion, 2023 National Runner-Up and 2024 Fourth Place). Decatur lost in a 1-0 decision to James Day of Wabash (Ind.), after winning a notable double overtime decision over No. 6 seed Mason Barrett of Averett (Va.). 

Ohio Northern junior All-American and No. 1-ranked Jacob Reed finished second in the 141-pound weight class, falling 4-2 to second-seeded Josh Wilson of Greensboro (N.C.) in the championship match. Reed made his third NCAA Championship appearance and has clinched All-America honors for the third consecutive year. Reed is now 116-7 in his career.

Ohio Northern tied for 22nd in the team standings, finishing the tournament with 16 points.
