2.18.13

Marietta junior guard Tori Dixon(Londonderry/Vinton Country) led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 17.5 points, one rebound and 2.5 assists-per-game. Dixon shot 12-of-20 (.600) from the field, including nine-of15 from three-point range and two-of-two from the free-throw line. She scored a career-high 26 points in the Pioneers win over Mount Union.

Baldwin Wallace sophomore guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) scored 35 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, recorded two assists and made a steal to help the Yellow Jackets to wins over John Carroll and Marietta last week. She recorded a career-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Marietta. Smolik made 15-of-25 shots (.600) from the floor, including 3-of-4 (.750) from three-point range and made both free-throw shots.

Baldwin Wallace junior guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 13 points and five rebounds-per-game. Lairson scored 16 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals and two blocked shots in the Yellow Jackets’ 74-71 upset over No. 19 Mount Union. On the week, Lairson made eight-of-13 shots from the floor and nine-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Wilmington senior forward LeAnn Topp (New Bremen) recorded back-to-back doubles-doubles and led the Quakers to a 2-0 record last week. Topp tallied16 points and 11 rebounds against Muskingum and 16 points and 12 rebounds against Heidelberg. She also had three assists, three steals and three blocks on the week.

Capital senior forward Stacy Timmerman (New Breman) averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists-per-game to help lead the Crusaders to a 2-0 record last week. She posted a career-high 29 points and added eight rebounds in a win over Marietta and then tallied 20 points and seven rebounds in a win over Baldwin Wallace. Timmerman shot 18-of-33 from the field and was 13-of-14 from the free-throw line

Otterbein senior forward Hannah Day (Chillicothe) lead to the Cardinals to a 2-0 record last week to extend their winning streak to six games. She posted a double-double with game-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Wilmington and then tallied14 points and seven-rebounds in a win at Heidelberg.

Baldwin Wallace senior guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/Hoover) helped the Yellow Jackets to victories over Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) and Marietta with 13.5 points and three rebounds-per-game. Carpenter made nine-of-13 fields goals (.693), including four-of-six from three points range and was five-of-seven from the free-throw line. She also had two steals and one block on the week.

Capital junior forward Jamie Caton (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) posted a team-high 18 points and added seven rebounds to help the Crusaders defeat No. 2 ranked Mount Union on December 22. Canton then posted 11 points, three blocks and five steals in Capital’s win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday.

Ohio Northern senior guard/forward Morgan Dumbaugh (Ada) led the Polar Bears to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Muskingum and Denison. Dumbaugh averaged 13 points-per-game and became just the 10th member of the ONU Women’s Basketball 1,000 point club. She shot three-of-four from three points range, nine-of-10 from the free-throw line and recorded 10 rebounds and four assists.

Otterbein sophomore forward Tabatha Piper (Sunbury/Big Walnut) led the Cardinals to a 2-0 record on the week, with a career-high 20 points in a win over Marietta and a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds in a win at Muskingum. Piper averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assist per game and shot 14-of-25 (.560), including three-of-four from three-point range and was five-of-six from the free-throw line.

John Carroll junior forward Missy Spahar (Willowick/Lake Catholic) led the Blue Steaks past Carnegie Mellon, 70-54, and to 100-97 overtime win against Case Western Reserve last week. Spahar averaged 22 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals-per game. She tied her career-high rebounds with 16 against Carnegie Mellon.

Muskingum senior forward Hannah Nelson (Salesville/Buckeye Trail) led the Muskies to a 2-0 record at the Marietta Turkey Shootout. Nelson averaged 21.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists and three steals-per-game. She went 18-of 23 (.563) and was six-of-seven from the free throw line. Nelson was named to the All-Tournament team.

Mount Union senior guard Rosa LaMattina(Westlake) averaged 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and three steals-per-game en route to earning MVP honors at the Manchester Tournament. LaMattina helped lead the Purple Raiders past Ill. Wesleyan 73-68 and Manchester (Ind.), 66-50.

John Carroll sophomore forward Missy Spahar (Willowick/Lake Catholic) averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the Blue Steaks final two wins of the regular-season. Spahar tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 73-71 win at Muskingum to clinch the No. 7 seed in the OAC Tournament.

Otterbein junior forward Chelsea Cannon (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) led the Cardinals to a pair of wins last week, averaging 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists-per-game. Cannon scored 18 points in a victory over Capital and then scored a career-high 20 points in a win over Muskingum. On the week, she shot 12-of -22 (.609) from the field and 14-of-23 (14-of-23) from the free-throw line.

 Mount Union junior guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake) tallied 30 points last week to lead the Purple Raiders to a pair of wins last week. She scored 17 points in an 87-56 win over Muskingum on Wednesday to become the 12th player in school history to score over 1,000 career points. LaMattina then scored a game-high 13 points on Saturday in a 65-41 win against Wilmington that became a Mount Union-record 15th consecutive win.

Mount Union junior guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake) tallied 30 points last week to lead the Purple Raiders to a pair of wins last week. Mount Union senior guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted) led the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 record last week. Wiedt opened the week going seven-of-seven from three-point range and nine-of-10 from the floor for 25 points in a win at Muskingum. She then came back and scored 17 points in a win over Otterbein. Wiedt added 3.5 rebounds and three assists per game and set the school record for career three-pointers with 210.

Mount Union senior forward Amanda Rose (Green) averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last week to lead the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 record. Rose scored a game-high 16 points in a win over Baldwin-Wallace and a game-high 20 points in a win at Heidelberg.

Heidelberg sophomore guard Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary’s) averaged 27.7 points per game, pulled down 10 rebounds, shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field, including 41.7 percent (five-of-12) from the three point line, and 81.1 percent (30-of-37) from the foul line, and tallied two assists, one block and five steals over the Berg’s three games. Phillips highlighted her week with a 36-point performance and the game-winning shot with three seconds left in the Berg’s 80-79 win over Marietta.

Marietta junior forward Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem) led the Pioneers at the Ohio Wesleyan Hoops for Hope Tournament, averaging 20 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and two blocks-per-game. Guiler set a school and tournament record with 21 rebounds in a win over Ursuline.  For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team.

Otterbein senior guard Kristi Kotterman (Wharton/Riverdale) scored a team-high 17 points to surpass 1,000 for her career during a victory over John Carroll. Kotterman was six-of-12 from the field, three-of-six from three-point range and tallied six rebounds and two assists

Ohio Northern sophomore forward Cenzie Yoder (Celina) scored 12 points to help the Polar Bears knock of #25 Otterbein on Wednesday and  then tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds at John Carroll for her first double-double of the season. On the week, Yoder averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal-per-game.

 Marietta junior forward Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) led the Pioneers to a pair of OAC wins last week with a 59-57 win at Muskingum and then defeated Baldwin-Wallace at home, 70-64. She notched her first double-double of the year against the Muskies with 15 points and 12 rebounds. On the week, Guiler tallied 34 points, 18 rebounds, one assist and three steals.

Ohio Northern senior forward Kara Dysert (Ada) helped the Polar Bears to a 3-0 record last week, averaging 15.3 points, nine rebounds and 1.6 blocks-per-game. She shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field and 61.5 percent (eight-of-13) from the free-throw line. Dysert posted her 11th career double-double against St. Mary’s with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Otterbein senior guard Kristi Kotterman (Wharton/Riverdale) helped the Cardinals to a pair of victories at the Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) Tournament. Kotterman averaged 22 points-per-game, including a career-high 30 points in the championship game. On the week, she shot .519 from the field and .538 from beyond the arc, while also tallying ten rebounds, six assists, and six steals. For her efforts she was name tournament MVP.
