DAY 1 RECAP: OAC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS | MOUNT UNION'S MCBRIDE SETS NCAA RECORD

 

 

BEREA, Ohio – The 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships kicked off in record setting fashion on Friday afternoon at the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University. The top three individuals and top three relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

Women

Mount Union’s Kenadee Wayt crushed the OAC 500-meter dash record with a time of 1:14.69. The previous record was set by fellow Purple Raider, Sarah Mason, a year ago (1:16.59).

After seven events, Mount Union leads with 72 points, 24 points ahead of John Carroll (48). Ohio Northern is in third with 47 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace with 37 points, and Otterbein rounding out the top five with 18 points.

Men

Mount Union’s Matt McBride broke the OAC 500-meter dash record with a time of 1:03.52 and set a new NCAA record by .19 seconds. The previous conference record was held by Mount Union’s A.J. Digby, set in 2017 (1:04.28). Wilmington’s Simon Heys set the OAC in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14:33.67. Otterbein’s Mike Sawicki has held the previous record since 2006 (14:46.90). John Carroll’s distance medley relay team of Ethan Domitrovich, Garrett Clark, Caleb Correia, Alex Phillip, Basheer Alramahi and Max Grillo set the conference record with a time of 9:53.41. The previous record was held by Otterbein since 2007.

After seven events, Mount Union is at the top of the standings with 92 points, 51 points ahead of John Carroll (41). Wilmington sits in third place with 38 points, followed by Ohio Northern with 34 points, and Otterbein with 31 points.
