John Carroll Finishes 15th at NCAA DIII Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

RESULTS

The John Carroll men’s swimming and diving team placed 15th with 87 points at the 2023 Division III NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. This marks the second year in a row where the Blue Streaks have earned a top 15 spot at the national meet. Emory won its second straight national championship finishing with 532 points, and Kenyon came in second with 495.50 points.

Six Blue Streaks competed at the 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships: Liam McDonnell, Jonah Venos, Michael Heller, Bryce Liddell, Daniel Argalious and Owen Holm. The group tallied four First Team All-American honors and two Second Team All-American awards. Senior Liam McDonnell earned All-American status five times.

 

Day 1

200 Medley Relay Final – The squad of McDonnell, Venos, Liddell and Argalious finished in seventh with a time of 1:27.88 to earn First Team All-American honors. McDonnell led off the relay in the backstroke leg and finished with a split of 21.03 which was the fastest time in the A final.

50 Freestyle Prelim – McDonnell swam the 50 freestyle prelim in 20.69 seconds, which ranked 37th at the meet. Argalious, finished right in front of McDonnell in 36th with a time of 20.68.

 

Day 2 

200 Free Relay Final – McDonell, Argalious, Liddell and Heller finished in 14th place with a mark of 1:21.81, to earn Second Team All-American honors. In the B final, McDonnell had the fastest splits (20.28) in the opening leg of anyone in the race.

100 Butterfly Final - McDonnell finished the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.92 to finish in fourth place and earn First Team All-American honors.  

400 Medley Relay Final - McDonnell, Venos, Holm and Heller placed second in the B final and 10th overall with a time of 3:16.78, earning Second Team All-American honors.

 

Day 3   

100 Backstroke Prelim/Final - McDonnell placed second in the prelim and the final, earning First Team All-American. He finished the prelim with a time of 47.26 and the A final with a time of 46.59.

100 Breastroke Final – Venos swam a 54.91 in the A final, taking eighth place and earning First Team All-American status.

 

Day 4

400 Free Relay Prelim – McDonell, Venos, Heller and Holm finished 17th in the 400 Free Relay Prelim with a mark of 3:02.25, missing the finals cut by just 0.35 seconds.
