DAY 2 RECAP: OAC SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

AKRON, Ohio – Ohio Athletic Conference swimmers put on another record-breaking show on the second day of the 2023 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
 
John Carroll leads the way in the women’s standings with 292 points, followed closely by Mount Union with 250 points, and Ohio Northern in third with 167 points. John Carroll paces the men’s field with 315 points, Mount Union is in second with 208 points, and Ohio Northern checks in third with 179 points.

Men’s Top Performances
John Carroll continued to break OAC records, as Liam McDonnell finished the 50 Yard Freestyle with a mark of 19.87, beating his previous record of 20.21 from earlier in the day. McDonnell set the 50 Free record three times today, and the first-place finish qualified him for an NCAA B cut.

In the 200 Yard IM, Joe Nadur finished with a time of 1:49.84, beating the previous OAC record of 1:51.10, which was set back in 2018 by Ohio Northern’s Nolan Huey. Nadur earned an NCAA B cut with his efforts.

The Blue Streaks also won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:20.65, NCAA B Cut) and the 400 Yard Medley Relay (3:20.81).

Mount Union’s Dylan Cossin placed first in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:38.88.

Women’s Top Performances

The John Carroll squad of Gwenyth Hamilton, Mairin Dalziel, Mary Hoffman and Ashley Lynch took first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a mark of 1:36.14. Mount Union came in a close second as Lexi Schuller, Emily Hauck, Maddie Horrigan and Abby Calaway finished with a time of 1:38.09.        

Mount Union’s Abby Calaway then led the way in the 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing with a mark of 5:11.58.

In the 200 Yard IM, John Carroll’s Olivia Goodman took home first place with a mark of 2:08.15, and Gwenyth Hamilton placed first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.00.

The evening concluded with John Carroll’s team of Lauren Koppelman, Olivia Goodman, Mairin Dalziel and Gwyneth Hamilton placing first in the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:57.55.

 

Day three of the OAC Swimming & Diving Championships begins Friday morning inside the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m., and finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. Fans can watch live here.
