DAY 1 RECAP: OAC SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

AKRON, Ohio – The 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship got off to a fast start Wednesday night at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

Women

John Carroll broke the OAC women’s 800 free relay record to start the championship. The group of Mary Hoffman, Ashley Lynch, Mairin Dalziel and Gwyneth Hamilton finished with a time of 7:46.20, breaking the previous OAC record by just over two seconds set by Ohio Northern in 2014. Mount Union’s squad of Lexi Schuller, Charlotte Cohagan, Isabelle Parr and Abby Calaway finished in second with a mark of 7:49.75.

After one event, John Carroll leads the team standings with 40 points. Mount Union is second with 34 points, Baldwin Wallace is third with 32 points, Ohio Northern is in fourth with 30 points and Wilmington is fifth with 28 points.

Men

John Carroll’s squad of Liam McDonnell, Jake Farr, Joseph Nadur and Aidan O'Neill placed first in the 800 free relay, finishing with a time of 6:43.11, earning an NCAA B cut. Mount Union’s squad of Lucas Starling, Dylan Cossin, Nathan Williams and Jordan Tondra finished in second with a mark of 6:49.04.

After one event, John Carroll leads the team standings with 40 points. Mount Union is second with 34 points, Ohio Northern is third with 32 points, Baldwin Wallace is in fourth with 30 points and Wilmington is fifth with 28 points.

 

Day two of the OAC Swimming & Diving Championships gets underway this morning with prelims beginning at 10am inside the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron. Finals will begin at 6:30pm. Fans can watch live here.
