Wilmington junior forward Malcolm Heard II (Wilmington) recorded his fourth and fifth double-double of the season to help the Quakers to a 2-0 record last week. On Wednesday, Heard II scored 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in a win over Otterbein. On Saturday, he tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds in win over John Carroll. On the week, Heard II shot 14-of-27 from the field, including five of 11 from three-point range and recorded four assists, nine steal and five blocks.

Marietta senior wing J.J. Martin (Huntington, W.Va.) led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 19.5 points and nine rebounds-per-game. Martin scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win over Muskingum and tallied 18 points and nine rebounds in a win over Heidelberg. On the week, Martin shot 16-of-32 (.500) from the field, three-of-five from the free-throw line and had four steals and three blocks.

Wilmington junior forward Malcolm Heard III (Wilmington) averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 assists-per-game to lead the Quakers to wins over Muskingum and Heidelberg. Heard shot 15-of-25 (.600) from the field, including five-of-eight (.625) from three-point range and shot nine-of-11 from the free-throw line. Heard also had two steals and one block on the week.

Baldwin Wallace junior forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds-per-game to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Heidelberg and Capital. Payne shot 15-of-29 from the field and nine-of-12 from the free-throw line. Payne become the 37th member of the BW 1000-Point Club.

Wilmington sophomore guard Dwight Johnson (Dayton/Jefferson) led the Quakers to a 2-0 record last week, including a 108-102 double overtime win against Mount Union with a career-high 24 points. On the week, Johnson averaged 23 points, 4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and one steal-per-game. He shot 17-of-28 (.607) from the field and 11-of-13 (.846) from the free-throw line.

Heidelberg senior guard Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Harvest Prep) scored a season-high 28 points in the Berg’s win over Muskingum . Givner shot 13-of-15 (.866) and collected six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

Baldwin Wallace junior guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy Name) averaged 17.3 points and 4.3 rebounds-per-game to help lead the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 (1-0 OAC) record since December 17. Krakowiak connected on 17-of-39 from the field (.430) and nine of 10 from the free-throw line (.900). He also contributed eight assists, four steals and six blocks.

Ohio Northern senior guard Taylor Kuhlman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) posted a career-high 27 points to lead the Polar Bears to a 93-78 win over Muskingum. Kuhlman went eight-of-11 from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. He also picked up eight rebounds and one assist.

Ottebein junior forward Max Van Meter (Westerville/Central) led the Cardinals to a 2-0 record last week, including an 85-80 upset over Wittenberg with a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. On the week, Van Meter averaged 20.5 points and10.5 rebounds per game. He shot 15-of-23 (.652) and was eight-of-12 (.833) from the free-throw line.

John Carroll junior forward/center Kyle Hubbard (Lakewood/St. Edward) led the Blue Streaks to an 83-77 win over Heidelberg with a career-high 23 points. Hubbard shot seven-of-11 (.640), was nine-of-nine from the free throw line and recorded six rebounds and one steal.

Ohio Northern junior guard Branden Rushton (Reynoldsburg) led the Polar Bears to a 2-1 record last week and the Alma Thanksgiving Tournament Title. Rushton averaged 21 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals-per game. Rushton shot 23-of-35 (.657), including seven-of-10 (.700) from three point range and was 10-of-12 (.833) from the free-throw line. For his efforts, he was named to the Alma All-Tournament Team.

Baldwin Wallace junior guard Kevin Krakowiak(Valley City/Holy Name) scored 28 points and tied a school record with eight three-point field goals in the Yellow Jackets 80-75 win over No. 25 Bethany (W.Va.). Krakowiak shot 10-of-15 from the floor, including eight-of-11 from three-point range and added three rebounds and two blocked shots.

2.20.12

Mount Union senior forward Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) had 48 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and zero turnovers last week to lead the Purple Raiders to a pair of wins over Heidelberg and Baldwin-Wallace and the No. 7 seed in the OAC Tournament. Wood scored a career-high 39 points on Saturday as Mount Union rallied from a double-digit deficit to pick up an overtime win against Heidelberg.

Capital senior guard Kelly Winter (Dublin/Scioto) led the Crusaders last week with 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and one block-per-game.  Winter tallied 25 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 86-75 overtime win against Otterbein on Wednesday and then posted 15 points versus Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday.  On the week, Winter shot 13-of-27 (.481) from the field, 11-of-16 from the free-throw line and three-of-five from three-point range.

Ohio Northern senior center Scott Schnelle (New Breman) led the Polar Bears past Marietta and against Capital last week, averaging 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Schnelle shot 14-of-20 (.700) from the field and eight-of 13 (.615) from the free-throw line. He also tallied three steals and two blocks on the week

Baldwin-Wallace sophomore guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Parma led the Yellow Jackets in a pair of games last week with 42 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. He scored a career-high 31 points in a win versus Heidelberg on Wednesday and added 11 points against Wilmington on Saturday. He made 18-of-30 field goals (.600), including five-of-10 three-pointers (.556).

Marietta senior Post Kevin Knab (Lakewood) led the Pioneers to two victories last week. Knab opened the week with 24 points and seven rebounds against Mount Union. On Saturday he tallied 25 points and had six rebounds against Baldwin-Wallace. Knab shot 16 of 20 (.800) from the field, 17-of-20 from the free-throw line and averaged two rebounds per game.

Muskingum senior forward Kyle Clinedinst (Mt. Vernon) averaged 22 points, nine rebounds, one assist, 3.5 steals and one block-per game.  Clinedinst highlighted the week with career-high 28 points to help push the Muskies past league leading John Carroll.  One the week, he shot 15-of-24 (.625) from the field, 10-of-12 (.833) from the free-throw line and four-of-seven from three-point range.

Marietta junior guard Jacob Owens (Mansfield) led the pioneers past Heidelberg  for the programs 1,000th win, hitting an impressive seven-of-eight from three-point range for 21 points and two rebounds.

John Carroll senior guard Corey Shontz (Andover/Pymatuning Valley) led the Blue Streaks to the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament title with 17 points, 1.5 rebounds, five assists and five blocks-per-game. Shontz was .500 (11-of-22) from the field and .914 (11-of-12) from the free-throw line. He scored 15 points against Regis in the opening round and then a team-high 19 points against Case Western Reserve. For his efforts, Shontz was selected tournament MVP.

Baldwin-Wallace sophomore forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record a double-double as the Yellow Jackets beat Muskingum, 68-63. Payne shot seven-of-10 (.700) from the field, 10-of-12 (.833) from the free-throw line and passes for two assists

Heidelberg senior guard Darion Capers (Dayton/Trotwood-Madison) averaged 17.5 points and 3.5 rebounds-per-game and shot an impressive 13-of-18 (.772) from the field to lead the Berg to a 1-1 record last week. In a set back at Baldwin-Wallace, Capers tallied a game-high 22 points and then scored 13 points in a win at Muskingum.

Otterbein senior center Chris Davis (Plain City/Fairbanks) recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 29 points and 11 rebounds in an 82-79 win over Mount Union. Daivs shot ten-of-15 (.667) from the field and nine-of-14 (.643) from the free-throw line.

 John Carroll senior guard Joey Meyer (Mentor) led the Blue Streaks to a pair of victories and the Spalding Thanksgiving Tournament Championship. Meyer averaged 19 points, three rebounds and 1.5 assists-per-game last week. He shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from field and 81.8 percent (nine-of-11) from three-point range.


11.21.11

Capital junior forward Spencer Niekamp (St. Henry) was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Buzz Ridl Classic at Westminster (Pa.), leading the Crusaders to wins over Thiel and Westminster. Against Westminster, Niekamp recorded a game-high 24 points and three steals. On the week, Niekamp shot an impressive 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the field, averaging 18 points-per-game, along with 3.5 rebounds-per-game.
