D3Baseball.com Team of the Week | Week 2
Capital senior Ty Clifton and Marietta senior Jacob Rocky have been named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week.
Clifton, designated hitter for Capital, was named to the national Team of the Week for the first time in his career. The award comes after Clifton helped guide the Capital baseball team to their first two wins of the season as Capital swept Chatham on Sunday. In those two games, Clifton finished with a .556 batting average, a .636 on-base percentage, and a 1.222 slugging percentage.
In the first game – a 10-7 win for Capital – Clifton was 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, two walks and two runs scored. In the second game – a 6-4 Comet win – Clifton was 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, four RBIs and one run scored.
Capital is now preparing for a nine-game slate in Vero Beach, Florida, beginning on Monday, March 3rd with a doubleheader vs. Kenyon.
Marietta pitcher Jacob Rocky was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the first time. Rocky dominated No. 11 ranked Christopher Newport for his first win of the young season. He started and pitched 7.0 shutout innings in Marietta's 9-1 victory over the Captains. Rocky gave up five hits and struck out four.
The Pioneers went 1-2 over the weekend. They will next return to Don and Sue Schaly Field at Pioneer Park to play in their home opener Saturday (March 1) against Wilson College in a nonconference doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
