Women’s Track and Field: Mount Union's Kenadee Wayt Named Academic All-American of the Year For NCAA Division III Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country

AUSTIN, Texas – Mount Union senior Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) headlines the 2022-23 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Women's Track and Field/Cross country Team selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
 
Wayt, a biology major with a 4.0 grade-point average from Wheeling, West Virginia was voted the Academic All-American® of the Year for Division III Women's Track and Field/Cross Country.
 
She is the fifth Purple Raider and second women to be voted Academic All-American of the Year joining track alum Mary Mahoney in 2013 and football players Greg Micheli in 2008, Nick Driskill in 2012, and Hank Spencer in 2015.
 
Wayt was the 2023 Elite 90 Women's Outdoor Track and Field award winner while picking up the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) top female athlete for the outdoor season in 2023.
 
In the indoor season Wayt won the 200-Meters running the third fastest time ever in Division III history. She led the team to its highest program finish at the Indoor Nationals placing fifth overall. She then came back to the outdoor scene winning the 200 and 400-Meters at the Outdoor Nationals.
 
Wayt currently has the most female All-Americans finishes at Mount Union with 15 over her career while tied with her mother formerly known as Heather O'Shea for national championships with three. Wayt in her career also has 10 school records to go along with 16 OAC wins and 21 All-OAC finishes.
 
She was named the Clyde Lamb award winner for Mount Union this year while also being the 2022 April OAC Scholar athlete of the month.
 
Wayt is also a six-time OAC team champion including two this season while also being named the OAC Sprinter of the year four times with two of those coming this year.
 
Wayt will now be put on a ballot with all the Division III sport winners to be voted on as the top Division III student athlete.
 
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
 
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
