Mount Union's Kennady Gibbins Finishes As The National Champion In the Heptathlon

GENEVA, Ohio— Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) became the first Mount Union women's track and field athlete to win the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships scoring 5,244 points on Friday afternoon.
 
Gibbins came into the meet ranked 14th overall but took a 190-point lead into day two.
 
As day two started Gibbins took second in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet 8-inches extending her lead to 198 points. Gibbins then threw 98-feet 3-inches in the javelin giving herself a 175-point cushion into the final event. Gibbins proceeded to run a seven second personal best in the 800-meters and finishing with 5,244 points which was 143-points clear of second place.
 
The mark breaks her previous school record by 584-points and is the fourth best mark at the championships meet.
 
Gibbins was not done on the day as she picked up another All-American award in the high jump placing seventh with a lead of 5-feet 6.5-inches. Gibbins now has five All-American awards to her name.
 
Madison Miles (Padua / Padua Franciscan) qualified to tomorrow's finals in the 400-meters running a 55.39 which is currently seventh overall.
 
Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central) finished 10th overall in the 100-meters with a time of 12.00.
 
Tomorrow Saturday, May 28th the Purple Raiders will have Wayt and Miles combined with Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and Cortni Arp (Copley) in the 4x400-meter relay final along with Brit McCauley in the 1,500-meter final.
