John Carroll University tennis player Lauren O'Malley was chosen as the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for the Women's Division III At-Large Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

She becomes just the third student-athlete in school history to be named the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year. Mackenize Griffin made history as the first John Carroll selection in any sport for Division III softball in 2013. Brian Potocnik was the second JCU honoree in 2014 for Division III Men's Soccer.

An Early Childhood Education major who graduated in May with 4.00 grade point average, O'Malley is a four-year letterwinner for the John Carroll women's tennis team. She has earned OAC Player of the Year four times, All-OAC first team accolades four times and OAC Player of the Week ten times. She qualified for three NCAA Division III Championship tournaments and has earned ITA Division III All-American honors three times.

Last month, O'Malley became the first John Carroll student-athlete in any sport to receive the NCAA ELITE 90 Award. The ELITE 90 is an award presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships at all levels.

In 2018-19, O'Malley advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in 2019 with a 34-3 singles record. She ended her career with a spectacular 111-10 record in singles competition, and combined with her 70 doubles wins, graduates as the all-time leaer in total victories in JCU women's tennis history with 181 triumphs.

By virtue of being selected a Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Women's Division III At-Large, O'Malley will now advance to the ballot for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year. In this final round of voting, all the Academic All-America® team members of the year from each of the 12 programs are placed on a ballot to determine the overall 2018-19 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for each division.
