BEREA, Ohio - The No. 7 nationally ranked and top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team won the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game for the ninth time in program history with a victory against two-seeded Ohio Northern University by a final score of 64-60 in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
With today's OAC tournament victory the Yellow Jackets earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Divison III Women's Basketball Tournament. Opponent information and seeding will be announced by the NCAA during the selection show on Monday, March 3rd at 2:30pm. After the game, senior All-OAC guard/forward Caely Ressler (Napoleon) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player and sophomore guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) was named to the OAC All-Tournament Team. BW also congratulated senior All-OAC guard Emily Irwin (Pickerington/Pataskala Watkins Memorial) on scoring the 1,000th point of her career becoming only the 17th Yellow Jacket to reach the milestone.
BW Leaders (26-1)
- Junior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) had a team-high 16 points, one rebound, and a steal
- McCoy totaled 11 points and one assist
- Sophomore guard Kayla Jones (Grove City) had two points and a team-high three steals
- Ressler recorded 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks
- Sophomore guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) totaled five points, three rebounds, and two assists
- Irwin recorded 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, and three steals
ONU Leaders (19-8)
- Senior forward Brooke Allen had 16 points, eight rebounds, and one steal
- Senior guard Abby Dickson recorded five points, two rebounds, four assists, and one steal
- Sophomore guard Chloee Glenn had 11 points, six rebounds, and one assist
- Senior forward Kristen Luersman had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals
1st Quarter (12-12)
- Badylak had a hot start scoring five points
- Miller, Wilkerson, and sophomore guard Maddie Ebbert (Lake Orion, Mich.) each recorded an assist
2nd Quarter (31-27 BW)
- Jones, Badylak, and Ebbert each had two steals
- Irwin hit a buzzer beater three pointer to score her 1,000th career point
3rd Quarter (49-42 BW)
4th Quarter (64-60 BW)
- After being held scoreless for the first three minutes of the quarter, the Jackets offense got going off a Ressler basket
- The Jackets offense scored ten points in the final three minutes
