Samaree Perkins Selected to D3hoops.com Team of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As announced on Tuesday morning, Capital University women's basketball sophomore forward Samaree Perkins has been selected to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

This selection comes on the heels of Perkins' first career OAC Athlete of the Week accolade. Since January 6, 1998 – the first issue of the D3hoops.com Team of the Week – Perkins' inclusion marks just the ninth different student-athlete from Capital to be selected to the national team of the week and the 12th unique selection. She joins teammate Bri O'Connor as national team of the week honorees in 2023-24.

This past week, Capital went 2-0 with a pair of come-from-behind wins over Muskingum and John Carroll. In those two games, Perkins averaged 20 points per game and 12 rebounds per contest while also adding two assists, a block and two steals.

Against the Muskies, Perkins was instrumental in helping the Comets turnaround a 21-point halftime deficit in which she scored a career-high tying 22 points. With Cap trailing 59-56 with 42 seconds remaining, Perkins converted a traditional three-point play to tie the score at 59-59 forcing overtime. In the OT period, Samaree scored the first eight points for Capital to help them secure the 68-66 win.

In the 76-66 win over John Carroll, Perkins was again a key piece of Capital flipping a halftime deficit into a 10-point victory. In that game, she scored 18 points to go with 14 rebounds – her 13th double-double of the year. With the two totals, Perkins averaged a double-double for the season with 13.0 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Samaree and the rest of the Comets women's basketball team will be back in action tonight, February 20th at 7 p.m. in The Capital Center as they host Mount Union in the first round of the OAC Tournament.

This season, Perkins is Capital's third student-athlete to be recognized with a national Team of the Week honor after the aforementioned O'Connor and senior football student-athlete James Curtis was chosen to the D3football.com Team of the Week after a 14-tackle performance vs. Otterbein.
