Stephen Named USPTA Midwest Coach of the Year

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Otterbein University head coach Tyler Stephen has been selected Midwest College Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).

Stephen, recently concluding his sixth year overall, led both Cardinal programs to the brink of Ohio Athletic Conference titles this past spring. Both the men and women came up just shy in respective OAC Tournament Finals against league power John Carroll.

Nevertheless, Stephen was voted OAC Coach of the Year on BOTH sides courtesy of his peers. He became just the second league coach since the turn of the century to land the honor without having won a championship.

Stephen now holds a 128-58 overall record at the helm of both programs, including a combined 49-19 mark within conference action. The last two seasons have been shortened due to the pandemic.

Stephen will be recognized with this USPTA award come August at the organization's 2021 Summer Symposium in Cincinnati, where live music will be provided by Midwest Pro of the Year Mark Ficks.
