Mason Spaulding Selected to the USILA National Team of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Late Tuesday afternoon, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced the selection of Capital University men's lacrosse senior Mason Spaulding to the National Team of the Week.

This selection is the second time in his career that Spaulding has been named to the USILA/Blatant Lacrosse Team of the Week. In just three seasons under the direction of head coach AJ Smith, the Comets have seen five selections to this national award.
Spaulding earned this distinction after an opening weekend that saw him record 11 points on 10 goals and one assist. In addition to his scoring, he added eight ground balls.

In the team's opening game, Spaulding scored one goal and recorded two ground balls in what was a tough loss to Sewanee on Saturday night.

The next day, Spaulding helped Capital rebound with a 17-10 win over Hendrix. In that game, Mason scored a single-game record nine goals to go with one assist and a career-high tying six ground balls. The 10 points also tied for the second most in a single-game in program history.

Just this week, Spaulding's national award is the fourth for the athletic department as he joins women's basketball player Samaree Perkins (D3hoops.com) and women's lacrosse player Grace Osborn (IWLCA & USA Lacrosse Magazine). During the year, Spaulding's national weekly award is the sixth for Capital Athletics, also joining Bri O'Connor (women's basketball) and James Curtis (football).

Capital men's lacrosse will be back in action this coming Saturday, February 24th at 1 p.m. as they host Kenyon College at Bernlohr Stadium.
