PING ALL-REGION TEAMS
NORMAN, Okla. – Otterbein University senior
Kurt Fortman (Cincinnati/Elder) represented the Cardinals on the 2020 NCAA Division III PING All-Region list this week, earning a spot on the All-Great Lakes squad as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Fortman was the only Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) player to garner the nod, joining 14 other recipients from around the region. A total of 96 student-athletes across six regions earned the accolade.
A 3x All-OAC standout for Otterbein, Fortman compiled a 74.7 stroke average throughout the fall and began with a top-10 finish at the Transylvania Invitational at UK Golf Club. He finished eighth of 77 participants after rounds of 71, 72 and 77.
Fortman then won both of his match-play outings from the No. 1 spot in the Columbus Cup against top entrants from Ohio Northern (1 up) and Capital (6&4).
He followed that by winning the OAC Fall Preview, a two-day event hosted at River Greens in West Lafayette, opening with a round of 77 before responding mightily with a career-best 68. That surge was enough to win the event by one shot, help spearhead Otterbein to a 19-shot victory in the team standings, and warrant OAC Player of the Week honors.
Fortman, the 2018 OAC individual medalist, then matched
Coury Rogers with a team-best 73 to begin the spring season at Moon Valley in Phoenix. He and the Cardinals were in search of a sixth-straight OAC title for the program.
