Final Results
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's golf team makes it four Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships in a row on Sunday after capturing this year's event by a staggering 28 strokes.
The Cardinals, which also won its eighth-straight OAC regular-season trophy last month by 18 strokes, cruised to a team total of 1199 to easily surpass second-place John Carroll (1227), which finished just two strokes ahead of Heidelberg to round out the top-three teams in the standings.
Otterbein held a distinct 15-stroke lead over then second-place Mount Union through one round Friday afternoon, before inflating its advantage to 20 strokes through 27 holes played later in the same evening.
Sophomore
Kurt Fortman proved to be the top-medalist among the 45-player field after totaling a 294 (72-74-73-75) on the par-73 course. Fortman's stellar score trumped Heideblerg's Andrew Sikorski by three strokes.
Sophomore
Sam Marty followed in the team standings and placed third overall after helping the Cardinals jump out to the sizable lead after round one, checking in with a field-low and career-low score of 69. Marty finished the tournament with a four-round total of 299 (69-76-75-79).
Senior
Austin Wells was next in line and finished sixth overall with a score of 303 (72-78-79-74), while sophomore
Tyler Dunfee followed three strokes behind with a 306 (75-77-75-79).
Fortman, Marty, Wells and Dunfee eached earned All-OAC accolades for the Cardinals, as the top-14 competitors in the event, including ties, were awarded the honors.
Freshman
Johnny Peck rounded out the Otterbein competitors with a 312 (78-75-80-79), good for a share of 15th-place overall to make it all five Cardinals inside the top-15.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the NCAA Division III Championships to be played May 15-18 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. Otterbein has already logged experience at the venue earlier this spring when it went 3-1 at the NCAA D3 Match Play event.
