WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's golf team captured its third-straight Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament title Sunday at River Greens Golf Course.
The Cardinals, which also won their seventh-straight OAC regular-season championship last weekend, punched their third-consecutive ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
"We played an extremely tough schedule this year which prepared us well for the conference championship," said head coach
Brian Booher. "Going into this year we knew we would have big shoes to fill losing our top-three golfers to graduation. But this year, Kris (Clarke), Austin (Wells), and Tyler (Elgin) have really stepped up the leadership on and off the course, while the freshmen class has exceeded expectations to help round out the lineup nicely."
Otterbein will look to best its seventh-place finish a year ago in the NCAA's when they compete in the national tournament May 16-19 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Full details and tee times for the event will be posted on the team's schedule page as soon as they come available.
The Cards held on to its 10-stroke lead through two rounds of play at the 54-hole tournament, winning by as many strokes over second-place Mount Union. Otterbein totaled an 883 (
286-299-298) over the three-day event, while Mount Union finished with an 893 (
298-303-292).
