Osborn Named IWLCA National Player of the Week

IWLCA Release

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced Capital University women's lacrosse junior midfielder Grace Osborn as the National Player of the Week. It is her fourth time receiving the honor after one selection earlier this season, and two last year.

Osborn has been taking this season by storm, currently leading the country in goals (89), goals per game (8.09), points (111), and points per game (10.09), as well as having already taken the Capital all-time scoring crown from Luci Kanowsky (254) with 326 career goals and counting.

Osborn started off her week by entering her name in the program record books a couple more times in Wednesday's 19-17 win against George Fox, passing Brooke Delara (389) as the Comets' all-time points leader with a 15-point performance that included a program-record 14 goals as well as one assist, along with seven draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Osborn stayed hot on Friday against Ohio Northern, with eight goals and three assists for a total of 11 points, as well as 13 draw controls, seven ground balls, and five caused turnovers as the Purple and White went on to trounce the Polar Bears, 23-10.

In total, Osborn turned in 22 goals, 4 assists, 26 points, 20 draw controls, 11 ground balls, and seven caused turnovers, while leading CU to a 2-0 week. She now sits on top of both the Capital career goals (326) and career points (406) leaderboards with her eyes set on the career draw controls record just 19 away 358.

Osborn and the Comets return to action on Saturday, traveling northeast to Berea for a matchup with Baldwin Wallace. That game is set to get going at 4 p.m.

This is Capital's seventh selection for a national weekly award this school year, with Osborn being selected once already this season, as well as Gino Nave and Mason Spaulding each earning one USILA Team of the Week selection this year, Samaree Perkins and Bri O'Connor making a D3hoops.com Team of the Week in the winter, and James Curtis being named to a D3football.com Team of the Week in the fall.
