2023 Cross Country Awards Announced

 

Baldwin Wallace’s Hope Murphy Named OAC Women’s Runner of the Year

Baldwin Wallace junior Hope Murphy (Mogadore, Ohio / Mogadore) has been named the OAC Cross Country Women’s Runner of the Year. Murphy registered a time of 21:56.54 to win the individual title at the OAC Championship. Murphy concluded her season with a 94th place finish at the NCAA Championship (22:26.6), after placing fifth in the DIII Great Lakes Regional to earn All-Region honors (20:53.83).

Wilmington’s Simon Heys OAC Men’s Runner of the Year

Wilmington senior Simon Heys (Wilmington, Ohio / Wilmington) has been selected as the OAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year. Heys was crowned the OAC individual champion with a time of 24:15 and went on to win the Great Lakes Regional in 23:46.7. Heys garnered All-America honors at the NCAA Championship with a 33rd place finish with a time of 25:04.4

John Carroll’s Ian Paul Named OAC Men’s Rookie of the Year

John Carroll’s Ian Paul (Massillon, Ohio /Massillon) has been selected as the OAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year. Paul placed 12th at the OAC Championship in 25:22.5 to earn All-OAC honors and went on to earn All-Region honors with a 27th place finish in a time of 24:38.2. Paul concluded the season at the NCAA Championship.

Ohio Northern’s AnnaSophia Gower Named OAC Women’s Rookie of the Year

Ohio Northern’s AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrrysburg) has been voted the OAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year. Gower earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish at the OAC Championship in a time of 22:13. She went on to earn All-Region honors with a 10th place finish at the Great Lakes Regional and concluded the season at the NCAA Championships.

John Carroll Named Men’s and Women’s Coaching Staff-of-the-Year

John Carroll men and women are led by 10th-year head coach Kyle Basista. On the women’s side, the Blue Streaks won the OAC Championship and placed fourth at the Great Lakes Regional. The JCU men won the OAC Championship, Great Lakes Regional and placed 20th at the NCAA Championship. Basista is assisted by Daniel Tutskey, Jamie Dailey and Jordan Doore.
