Sarah Otey, Commissioner

Sarah Otey is the first female Commissioner of the Ohio Athletic Conference.  In her role as Commissioner, she serves as the chief executive officer wherein she facilitates all strategic and operational aspects of the highly competitive Division III conference.

Prior to joining the OAC, Otey spent four and a half years as the director of student-athlete reinstatement at the NCAA.  In that role, Otey oversaw the NCAA team responsible for reinstating NCAA student-athletes following rules violations and for processing a variety of waivers related to student-athlete eligibility.  She also served as the primary liaison to the NCAA Division I Strategic Vision and Planning Committee, which is the committee responsible for Division I membership, health and safety, inclusion and other strategic priorities.

In total, Otey was with the NCAA for almost nine years; prior to being promoted to director in November 2016, Otey spent the previous four years serving the Division III membership, first as an assistant director and later as an associate director of academic and membership affairs.  During her time with Division III, she managed Division III interpretations and legislation and served as a governance liaison to a variety of committees, including the NCAA Division III Management and Presidents Councils.

Otey began her career in intercollegiate athletics at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia where she served as an assistant athletic director from August 2010 to September 2012.  Otey holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington and Lee University and a Master’s in exercise physiology from the University of Virginia.
